Biography

Rod Acosta Graduated from (Escuela de Artes Plasticas) San Juan school of fine arts Obtaining a bachelor's in fine arts.

Continuing his education at Rollings College, Florida.

He has been drawing and painting since age 14 and has experimented in various mediums, producing and exhibiting his art in Florida and parts of the Caribbean.

His Exhibitions include 3 collective exhibitions at the annual biennial of (Cuartel la puntilla In San Juan P. R.).

In 1992 Acosta moved to Florida and shortly after participated in O.V.A.L. Orlando volunteer artist league.

My first solo exhibition in Florida was at Cafe tutu tango and since then he had shown at Borders, D.A.A.S. coop gallery, Arts for acts gallery, Sydney & Berne Davis Museum in fort Myers among others.

In 2021 Rod received a commission to paint 2 mural panels the Caloosahatchee Marina in downtown Fort Myers and they will remain there permanently to be appreciated by future generations.

He has Taught individual art classes from time to time and has participated in numerous teamed art shows and have won 3 Best of show awards. Rod moved to Marion County a couple of years ago and had participated in some local collective art shows at Noma gallery and M.CA./Brick gallery. Shortly after participated as a resident artist at the Magnolia Art Xchange M.A.X. concluding with his solo exhibition "Evolution Revolution", and a M.A.X. alumni exhibition at the Appleton Museum of art.

Acosta's works include mixed media on canvas or wood board, oil paintings also producing welded steel sculptures finished with texture and oil paintings. His technique consists in extreme light contrast, heavy texture, Oil layered scratching, adding found objects and textiles strategically placed in his work to complement the ambient of each piece.
